I was fortunate enough from the ages of 6-18 to live in a home that experienced paranormal activities. Specifically, daytime events including the appearance of a full body apparition of a woman wearing a sweater who would wander around our upstairs & basement in full view of both of my parents & 2 older sisters. We would also hear footsteps often & our toy french poodle would react by quickly exiting an area where activity was occurring and squeeze itself under our living room couch and then cry.
My parents normalized these events and never created any fear in us growing up. My sisters bedroom was in the basement and there were foggy type mists that would appear from time to time either in the dark (but illuminated even in the dark) or in the day light which we always felt was an attempt for the ghostly woman to appear to us. My parents called the original owner of the home and were told that an elderly woman (deceased) who loved this home had been seen by previous occupants prior to my parents purchasing this home.
Were we startled at times? Yes. Were we afraid? No. Did our friends experience occurences during sleep overs at our home? Yes, and they were frightened but we always normalized the events by explaining to them that no harm would be done to any of us.
I truly appreciate the positive manner in which our parents reinforced "normalcy" and to not fear the unknown. We never did feel any type of threat nor was there any events that we felt were to frighten or scare us but an understanding on our part that this ghostly person truly loved this home & simply wanted to come visit from time to time. These were my first experiences into what we term "paranormal" today & I value these memories.
