Electronic Voice Phenomena
EVP or Electronic Voice Phenomena is described as the capturing of voices from disembodied spirits on recordings. This phenomenon has occurred for centuries since audio recording has been available.
In today's paranormal investigation field, digital recorders and other forms of recording devices are used during the investigation. Investigators ask questions in an attempt to engage any entities present to interact.
Most EVP's are classified into different classes, depending on which team is reviewing them. The most common are as follows:
Class A: Very loud, clear and understandable to everyone listening. These types do not normally need any form of audio enhancement for the average person to hear.
Class B: This class is still usually audible but is in a lower sounding voice. It may need to to be amplified to hear well, but is basically one step down form Class A EVP.
Class C: This class is generally very low in volume and needs some assistance in amplifying and clearing to hear by the average person. Often they sound like whispering, muffled voices, etc.
Class D: The P.A.S.T. is Present classifies these EVP as those that are too muffled, low or environment noises that cannot be explained by debunking. Such as the sound of walking when no one is walking or creaking noises that may be the building setting.
Class R: This form of EVP is typically those that are captured and in order to understand must be played backwards. The team has only captured one of such EVP's in three years. They are extremely rare.
